Writing program focuses on Farming Families

Whether you live on the land or in the towns, our rural communities are built around agriculture. Farming is the backbone of Australian country areas, providing the way of life that we all enjoy.

Students from across northern NSW, and cotton growing regions across NSW and Qld, will be learning all about how important farms are to our communities and vice-versa through the “Farming Families” Enviro-Stories program.

This innovative program has been running across the region since 2009 and seen a collection of books published that have been written by local kids, for local kids. These books can be found on the Enviro-Stories website.

The Farming Families theme is in honour of the United Nations International Year of Family Farming.

By participating in this Enviro-Stories program, kids will be able to learn about farming, why farms are important for our towns and communities and why it is important that we work together to protect, preserve and support our local farming industry.

The Northern Tablelands and North West Local Land Services, as well as the Cotton Research and Development Corporation, is supporting this program and will be offering assistance to local schools who would like further information about local farming practices.

If you, your school or your child would like to get involved in the Farming Families Enviro-Stories program then please register online at www.envirostories.com.au/get-involved/
