From the farm to you Enviro-Stories Competition is open to all schools from the irrigation regions of NSW and Queensland (in the Murray-Darling Basin).

Students will discover how food and fibre is grown and prepared before it reaches the supermarket or shopping centre. Seven storybooks will be published thanks to the Australia Cotton Research and Development Corporation.

Students involved in this program will write and illustrate a 15-page storybook focused on where their food and fibre comes from. This story will be published into an A5 school reader and the students will have the honour of becoming published authors. These books will be distributed to schools, libraries and throughout the wider community as a resource to help others learn about the topic.

Stories can be from a human, plant or animal perspective or about how food and fibre is grown and prepared before it reaches the supermarket or shopping centre. They can be fictional or non-fictional stories but we definitely encourage lots of creativity. Entries can be submitted by individuals, small groups or even full classes.

Here are some ideas to get you started on the kinds of topics we’re looking for in your stories:

  • Where does our food come from?
  • Think of the future
  • From the farm to the plate
  • Where do our clothes come from?
  • Kitchen gardens
  • Growing a pair of jeans
  • Farmers markets
  • Growing a lunch box
  • From the sheep’s back
  • The chicken or the egg
  • Who’s on the farm?
  • Showcase a local farmer or farming family

Where does your food and fibre come from?
